With a history of more than 1,500 years, Fengjing ancient town was once a key connection between Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Unique customs, simple and honest folkways, and idyllic scenery have made it a typical waterside township in south China. The town is the hometown of folk arts and Chinese rice wine. The town is National AAAA Scenery Area and has been selected as one of "the Eight Shanghai Must-Sees."
 
There are many bridges, temple, famous people and lanes in the Fengjing Ancient Town. Fengjing Ancient Town is also known as the birthplace of the famed Jinshan Peasant Painting, which has won praise for its creative designs and bright colors that vividly represent the everyday life of the working people.
 
There are 29 streets and blocks, and 84 lanes in the town. Among them, ancient Heping Street, Shengchan Street, Beida Street and Youhao Street are well preserved. Fengjing Town is the only large-scale and beautifully preserved ancient water town in Shanghai.
 
With great cultural diversity, several notable talents have emerged from Fengjing Town. Cartoons by Ding Cong, paintings by Cheng Shifa, Jinshan Peasants Painting and the Weiqi skill of Gu Shuiru are called "three paintings and one game" of the town. The town is also famous for its delicious food, including golden maple rice wine, Fengjing braised pig's feet, scholar cake and bean curd.
