Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque is one of the four renowned ancient Islamic temples in Chinese coastal areas. Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque also enjoys high reputation in the Arab World. As a mosque, it is now a worship center for Hangzhou Moslems.
 
Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque is so named because of its flying phoenix architectural structure. Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque can dates back to the Tong Dynasty (618-907) while unfortunately was destroyed in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).In 1281, a famous Islam ‘Ala’ al-Din restored Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque. And then Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque was repaired and expanded during the period from 1451 to 1493 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) before its final completion. In 1961, Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque was included into key cultural relic protection units of Zhejiang Province.
