The Hohhot Great Mosque, located in the Muslim quarter of Hohhot, was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 AD) when the Hui Muslim Minority migrated from Xinjiang to Mongolia. Hohhot Great Mosque is a mixture of Chinese and Arabic architecture. Hohhot Great Mosque was built in traditional Chinese style with Arabian interior decorations. Traditional Chinese bricks carving with Arabian characters are largely used for its decorations. The 15 meter-tall minaret that is topped with a pagoda style roof offers a nice view of the city.
