Guangzhou Overview

Geographic Location
Guangzhou is the capital and the political, economic, and cultural center of Guangdong Province. It is located in the southeast of Guangdong Province and in the north of the Pearl River Delta. It is located between longitude 112 degrees east and latitude 22 degrees north, bordering on the South China Sea, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao. It is a regional central city in South China, and China‘s Southern Gateway to the world. 

Natural Conditions
Topography and climate: The topography is higher in the northeast, lower in the southwest, north and northeast are mountainous area with waters, south is an alluvial plain - the Pearl River Delta. Guangzhou enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate. There is neither intense heat in summer nor severe cold in winter. It enjoys plenty rainfall and evergreen in four seasons. The average temperature is 22.8 degrees centigrade, the average relative humidity is about 68%, and the annual rainfall at the urban area is over 1,600 mm.

Natural resources: Up to now, there are over 50 varieties of discovered mineral deposits in the mines, out of which 17 are large-and-medium-sized ones. There are several thousands of plant species and about 210 kinds of wild animals.

Guangzhou covers a water area of 74,400 hectares, accounting for 10% of the total area. There is abundant underground hot water with rich minerals at Conghua, the temperature being from 50 degrees centigrade to 70 degrees centigrade. Main grain crop is long-grained non-glutinous rice harvested twice a year. The main economic crops are vegetables, flowers and fruits. It is a "Land of fruits" with main subtropical varieties of Litchi, Longan, banana, pineapple, papaya and carambola, etc.. Guangzhou has been famous for its flowers and bonsai with the focus on leaf appreciation shade plant, high-grade vase flowers, fresh-picked flowers and Lingnan bonsai. Leaf appreciation shade plant occupies half of the market nationwide. We become national production base for bonsais of Anthurium spp, Phalaenopsis spp and Euphorbia pulcherrima wild with the bonsai export to European and American market.

Guangzhou has clean water, green mountains and beautiful landscape. It has rich tourist resources and over 100 scenic spots. The most famous ones are the "Eight New Scenic Spots" such as Baiyun Mountain, Pearl River, Yuexiu Hill, New Tianhe Area, Chen Clan‘s Academy, Huanghuagang Mausoleum, Guangdong Olympic Sports Center, Panyu Lianhuashan Mountain and others such as Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Huangpu Military Academy, The Museum of the King‘s Tomb of Southern Yue, Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, Guangzhou Museum of Art, Guangzhou Flower Expo Garden, South China Botanical Garden, Conghua Hot Spring, Panyu Xiangjiang Natural Zoo, Baomo Garden, Guangdong Arts Gallery, Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station, Liuxi River National Forest Park, Shangxiajiu Commercial Pedestrian Street and Beijinglu Commercial Street.
