Changchun Overview

Changchun is a well known Car City, Film City and Forest City in and out of China. As the capital city of Jilin Province, Changchun is the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of this region.

Changchun locates on the central part of Northeast Plain and it is the geographical center of the whole northeast area. The urban district covers 4906 square kilometers. There are 46 ethnic groups dwelling in Changchun.

Changchun has temperate continental monsoon climate with absolutely distinct seasons. The short spring is dry and windy; summer is warm and rainy; autumn is comfortable but featured by the large temperature differences between day and night; and winter is longer and freezing. 

The transportation is Changchun is convenient. The local railway lies on the main artery of Beijing-Harbin railway and links Changchun with other major cities of China. Besides, Changchun LongJia International Airport offers 39 domestic and foreign lines, which makes the transportation net of Changchun more convenient and fast. What’s more, the transportation within the city is also well developed. There are numerous buses, subways and trams in Changchun, which will make visitors enjoy the convenience of travel.

Changchun History

Changchun had several names in history. It was first established by Xiaoshen Kingdom and called Xidu at that time. Later, the name was changed into Helong City by Huimo people-the ancestor of Nuzhen people. Then the city was called Shushan, Dezhou and Yeludeguang City successively. In 1234, Nuzhen people grew up in this region and called the city Dezhou City or Bailongfu. In Qing dynasty, Emperor Qianlong praised this region for its everlasting spring, thus it got the current name-Changchun. In modern history, Changchun had suffered a lot in various wars. In 1948, Changchun was liberated peacefully.
